The Year of the Word

“We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life.” 1 John 1:1

‘THE GOD WHO SPEAKS’ THE YEAR OF THE WORD
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales have designated 2020 as ‘The God Who Speaks’: A Year of the Word to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini – Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’, and the 1600th anniversary of death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin.

Therefore, 2020 will be a year of celebrating, living and sharing God’s word, through a range of events, activities and resources, available across the Diocese of Westminster.

Prayer:
Living God, you walk alongside us and speak to us throughout the Scriptures.
Your Son, Jesus Christ, listens to our hopes and fears and shows us how to live for one another.
Send us the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds so that we may be your witnesses throughout the world.
Amen

ASSEMBLY
In September, we had an assembly to launch the Year of the Word. We will be following Matthew’s Gospel as we make our journey with God who Speaks.
ARTWORK
We created a wonderful display of the stories and parables from the gospel of Matthew. The children created beautiful artwork to add to the display.
OUR FAVORITE BIBLE QUOTES
The children reflected on some of their favorite quotes from the Bible. We also reflected on a weekly Bible verse on the God who speaks website.

AT HOME LEARNING
As much of our Year of the Word was spent at home, we posted lots of games and activities linked to the Bible on class Dojo for the children to engage with at home.

WORLD BOOK DAY
The theme of world book day 2020 in St Scholastica’s was “The Bible”. The children enjoyed dressing up as characters from the Bible and reading different Bible stories.
Bible Story Week 2020

Each class focused on a different Bible story for reading and writing. The children really enjoyed learning about the different stories and retelling them in different ways. It is a week we will continue each year.
