"No work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."
Martin Luther King Jr.
Hello! We are the School Council at St Scholastica’s Catholic Primary School. This is a very special role where we are the voice for our peers regarding whole school topics which we discuss and improve upon.
To become a School Councillor, you have to complete an application form and present your speech to the class, who will then vote for two children to take on the role. Ms. Lopez then discusses and decides with the class teacher whether these children are capable of fulfilling their duties and being role models for the school.
We have half termly meetings where we discuss any improvements we would like to make in the school. We have created and implemented class suggestion boxes which we check each week, these suggestions become the focus for the next meeting. We highlight important events within the school which we feel passionately about such as Anti-Bullying week. We present our ideas in whole school assemblies so that children are aware of national events and issues. We also go on trips so that we learn more about the roles in a council and how important it is for everyone's voice to be heard. We have visited Hackney Town Hall and The Houses of Parliament which were very informative and exciting experiences.
We have lots of ideas on how we can support our community, focusing on local, national and international charities, through fundraising and campaigning activities.
