These pages describe our schools ‘offer’ for children with SEND
The SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), along with the Headteacher and Governing Body, take responsibility for the implementation of the school’s SEND policy and the co-ordination of special educational needs provision within our school.
Miss Cousins is our SENDCo and Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion. She is a qualified teacher and an experienced SENCO and is working towards completing the NASENCO qualification. Our Headteacher, Mrs Brierley also holds the NASENCO qualification. Miss Cousins has the day to day responsibility for the operation of the SEN policy and providing professional guidance to colleagues and work closely with staff, parents and other agencies.
The SEND Governor is Christina Boey.
The School Leadership Team along with the Governors are committed to regularly reviewing how expertise and the use of resources are used to address SEN to continue to improve the quality of whole school provision.
In regard to The Children and Families Act 2014, the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of Practice 2014, our school is committed to make arrangements to support pupils with medical or physical needs.

MY CHILD HAS DIFFICULTIES WITH LEARNING AND LITERACY
This can include:
- Reading and spelling
- Learning new information and concepts
- Working with numbers
- Working memory
- Concentration
- Students may have conditions such as Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) affecting one or more specific aspects of learning. This encompasses a range of conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) where pupils are likely to need support in all areas of the curriculum and associated difficulties with mobility and communication.
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) where children are likely to have severe and complex learning difficulties as well as a physical disability or sensory impairment.
- Students may present with difficulties that do not have a specific title.
What can SSCPS offer?

- Access to homework support through homework club
- Access to assessment for identification of significant needs
- Dedicated and caring staff who value all students regardless of ability.
MY CHILD HAS SENSORY AND/OR PHYSICAL NEEDS.
This section covers pupils who have difficulties with:
- Vision
- Hearing
- Gross motor co-ordination
- Fine motor co-ordination
- Self-organisation for daily living
- It includes conditions such as multi-sensory impairment, cerebral palsy, physical injury, dyspraxia or a physical disability.

- Conditions include: Specific Language Disorder, Development Language Disorders, ASD/ASC (Autism), Asperger Syndrome, speech sound disorders/delay.

All children can find strengths and difficulties with learning or accessing the curriculum. The staff in our school use a process of assess, plan, do review to identify and support children with a special educational need and/or disability. Through this cycle, all teaching staff and school leaders are rigorous and consistent in their approaches to improving the conditions of learning for each and every pupil. Parents/carers will be included in every step of the decision making process.
Aims
- To identify pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities as early as possible and meet their needs
- To ensure teachers are aware of such pupils
- To provide all our children with a broad and balanced curriculum that is differentiated to meet the needs and ability of the individual
- To be sympathetic to each child’s needs by providing a strong partnership between children, parents, governors, Local Authority and outside agencies
- To ensure all pupils make effective progress and realise their full potential
- To ensure all pupils take a full and active part in school life.
